Only 8 percent of U.S. adults get their news using Twitter, according to a Pew Research Center study in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

While 16 percent of U.S. adults use Twitter, according to the study, just 52% “ever” use the social media service for “information about events and issues that involve more than just your friends or family.”

Forty-five percent of Twitter news consumers are 18-29 years old, and the subset tends to be more educated than the general population.
