Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on Sunday slammed Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) for initiating a class-action lawsuit against the National Security Agency over its bulk data collection program.

“Rand Paul does not know what he’s talking about. And, Rand Paul is really spreading fear among the American people,” King said in an interview with Fox News’ “America’s News HQ.” “To me, he’s either totally uninformed or he’s part of that hate America crowd that I thought left us in the 1960s.”

King said that if the federal government were to follow Paul’s policy guidelines, more Americans would die in terrorist attacks.

“It infuriates me that people like Rand Paul are putting the American lives at risk,” King said. “If we listen to Rand Paul and follow his policies, Americans will die.”

The New York congressman also said that Paul doesn’t deserve to be in Congress.

“In any event, he doesn’t deserve to be in the United States Senate for spreading that type of misperception and absolute lies to be honest with you,” King said.

King, an adamant defender of the NSA who has criticized Paul’s views on the agency before, said that the NSA is not invading Americans’ privacy.

“The NSA is doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing,” he said Sunday. “I am as certain as I can be about anything because it’s monitored by the courts, monitored by the justice department, monitored by the Congress.”

King also called the New York Times “apologists for terrorists” after the paper published an editorial calling for a clemency deal for former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
