Rep. Pete King (R-NY), a moderate in the Republican caucus, joined Democrats in urging House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to call a vote on lifting the debt ceiling while the House remains in flux over who will replace him.
Asked by a reporter Friday if Boehner is liberated to raise the debt ceiling now that he has announced his resignation, King said, “Yes, I would hope he does.”
“He doesn’t have to worry about losing votes. He’s not the speaker,” King said, when asked to elaborate.
King also suggested a willingness to work with Democrats to elect a new speaker.
“Whatever we have to do to elect a speaker, we have to do,” King said. “Whatever we have to do to get it done.”
Just get rid of it altogether. Or raise the limit to infinity. Otherwise we will repeat this same fiasco every year or so.
Another alternative is for people to wake up and stop voting for hostage takers.
peter king for gop speaker? only part time nuts. about all you can ask for.
Refusing to default on our debt and wreck the economy is what passes for “moderation” these days.
When the bagman for the IRA is the voice of “moderation”, you know that the House Republican caucus is truly a clusterfuck.
@Frankly_my_dear
Notice how often the press is now making sure King’s described as moderate?
The party that is unable to govern needs to give thanks (and offer their cliched thoughts and prayers) that the party that knows how to govern is willing to work with them.
