Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) called state Sen. Wendy Davis’ (D) nearly 11 hour filibuster to block a strict abortion bill from passage “nothing more than the hijacking of the democratic process.”
Pro-abortion forces, he said Thursday morning at the National Right To Life Convention, “will resort to mob tactics to force their minority agenda on the people of Texas.”
Davis’ filibuster, which drew thousands of jeering protesters in the state house, succeeded in delaying a bill that would ban abortions in the state after 20 weeks. On Wednesday, however, Perry called for a special legislative session to again push through the bill.
“We will ban abortions after 20 weeks,” Perry said in his speech at the convention. “We will not give up the good fight.”
