Defense Secretary Leon Panetta delivered a video message thanking lesbian and gay servicemembers for their service, marking the first time the Pentagon has recognized LGBT Pride Month month since the repeal of the military policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

“Now after repeal, you can be proud of serving your country and be proud of who you are when in uniform,” Panetta said.

The Pentagon is planning its first-ever Gay Pride event later this month. View Panetta’s video below.
