House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) asked for a moment of silence Wednesday for the victims of a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California as he kicked off a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The shooting took place at the Inland Regional Center, a facility that serves individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Police said the shooting left “upwards” of 14 people dead.

“Before I begin I just want to say that we are all thinking of the current and ongoing tragedy in California today,” Ryan said before asking for a moment of silence. “Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers right now.”
