Paul Ryan fired up the crowd at his first speech as Mitt Romney’s running mate with a promise to confront issues head on. Ryan’s willingness to create a budget package including steep cuts in enititlements is one of the reasons both conservatives and liberals are looking forward to his turn as Romney’s most prominent surrogate.

“The commitment Mitt Romney and I make to you is this: we won’t duck the tough issues, we will lead,” Ryan said.
