Al Jazeera reports that Palestinians are seeking an international probe into Yasser Arafat’s 2004 death after a recent report suggested that the former PLO leader may have been poisoned. Tunisia, which called an urgent meeting of the Arab League in light of the findings, backed the Palestinians’ demand. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for Arafat’s body to be exhumed.
A group of Swiss scientists recently told Al Jazeera that they’d discovered measurable levels of polonium-210 in Arafat’s clothes, toothbrush, and kaffiyeh. Polonium was used to kill Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian spy who succumbed to radiation poisoning. It’s thought that polonium was slipped into his tea at a London restaurant.
