Deep-fried candy bars, giant stuffed animals, and elephant ears, yes. But leave the Confederate flags at home for this year’s Ohio State Fair, one of the largest state fairs in the U.S.
Fair organizers announced the decision to ban selling Confederate flag merchandise at the 2015 fair Thursday in a letter sent to vendors.
In the letter, general manager Virgil Strickler reiterated that the fair, scheduled for July 29 to Aug. 9, has long prohibited selling items with “offensive wording, lettering or graphics,” a blanket policy that now includes Confederate flag-decorated items.
Vendors selling such items will be asked to promptly remove them, Strickler wrote.
The Illinois and New York State Fairs have already banned the flag at this year’s festivities. Kentucky state fair organizers are considering a similar ban, Cleveland.com reported.
