President Obama said he would not let his son play pro football, when asked about football and links between concussions and early-onset dementia during an interview published Sunday in The New Yorker.

“I would not let my son play pro football,” he said, indicating he was concerned about the health effects of concussions.

Obama went on to say that while he wouldn’t want his son to play, it was football players own choice to risk their health to play professionally.

“These guys, they know what they’re doing. They know what they’re buying into,” he said. “It is no longer a secret. It’s sort of the feeling I have about smokers, you know?”
