“The work of defending our nation is never done,” President Obama said Monday at the White House, after nominating Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense and John Brennan for CIA director.

Obama said his criteria for choosing the two men was “simple”: Who will do the best job defending America?

“I am confident they will do an outstanding job,” Obama added. “I urge the Senate to confirm them as soon as possible.”
