The Obama campaign is out with a new ad in which President Obama discusses his commitment to equal pay for women, stressing that it’s an economic issue necessary to strengthen the middle class. The ad, which the campaign says is the first in a series of spots that will highlight Obama’s commitment to women and families, stresses Obama’s life story as the son of a single mother and the father or two daughters as well as his signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

“The son of a single mom,” the narrator begins. “Proud father of two daughters. President Obama knows that women being paid 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men isn’t just unfair… It hurts families.”

Mitt Romney, who is not mentioned in the positive spot, has not said whether he would have signed Lilly Ledbetter into law. The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia.
