President Obama will posthumously award the six teachers and administrators who died protecting the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., with the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest award for civilians, the Connecticut Post reports

Obama will present the medals, given out annually, to surviving family members at a Feb. 15 White House ceremony.

The medals will go to the families of Dawn Hochsprung, the principal; Mary Sherlach, the school psychologist; and teachers Rachel D’Avino, Lauren Rousseau, Anne Murphy and Victoria Soto. They and 20 first graders were shot to death on December 14 by Adam Lanza, 20, of Newtown.
