President Obama spoke to pro-gun Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) on Tuesday to discuss gun control ideas, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

Manchin said on MSNBC Monday that it’s time to “take action” on gun control in the wake of last week’s shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Carney also said the President supports Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) planned legislation to ban assault weapons.
