Jay Leno asked President Obama about Indiana Republican Senate nominee Richard Mourdock in an interview set to air on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show.” According to the pool report, Obama was baffled by Mourdock’s remarks about rape, pregancy and God’s will

From the pool report:

When Leno asked Obama about Mourdock’s remarks, Obama said “rape is rape. It’s a crime.”

“I don’t know how [they] come up with these ideas…rape is rape. It is a crime,” Obama said. “These various distinctions about rape don’t make too much sense to me, don’t make any sense to me.”
CNN reported that Obama used Mourdock to make a larger point about women and the 2012 race on the Tonight Show.

“This is exactly why you don’t want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women’s health care decisions,” he told Leno. “Women are capable of making these decisions in consultation with their partners, with their doctors, and for politicians to want to intrude in this stuff often times without any information is a huge problem.”
