President Obama said Monday Nancy Reagan “could not have been more gracious and more charming” to him and Michelle Obama when they first got to the White House and the former first lady would be missed by the country.

“I think it as been well documented, the extraordinary love that she had for her husband, and the extraordinary comfort and strength that she provided him during really hard times,” Obama said of Reagan, who died Sunday at the age of 94.

“As somebody who’s been lucky enough to have an extraordinary partner in my life, as well, I know how much she meant, not just to President Reagan but to the country, as a whole,” he said. “He was lucky to have her. I’m sure he would be the first to acknowledge that.”
