President Barack Obama on Thursday attended a memorial service — the second time in one week — for a deadly West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion that killed 14 and injured over a hundred people.

Looking over flag-draped caskets carrying the bodies of 12 firefighters before him, a mournful Obama said that “no words can adequately describe the courage displayed on that deadly night.”

“For this state—for our country—these have been trying and difficult days,” he added.

The president and First Lady Michelle Obama plan to meet with families and close friends of the first responders following the service, according to a White House pool report. En route to the service from former President George W. Bush’s presidential library dedication in Dallas, Obama’s helicopter circled the area a few times to view the damage from the explosions.
