Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has issued some pretty dramatic charges at President Obama, but the two shelved their differences on Thursday morning in the name of prayer.
Obama made an appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast — which was hosted by Gohmert — and he spoke warmly of a man who’s floated the idea of impeaching him. Gohmert has earned a reputation for castigating Obama with talking points pulled straight from the right-wing fever swamps, but evidently the criticism only comes when the President isn’t looking.
“I, by the way, have always found Louie to be unbelievably gracious every time I’ve see him,” Obama said at the breakfast.
“Now, I don’t watch TV,” he added, drawing laughter from the audience.
Gohmert has accused Obama of, among other things, discriminating against Christians in the military, stirring up “racial tension and violence” and (by virtue of the White House’s alleged support of the Muslim Brotherhood) destroying America.
