President Barack Obama on Wednesday said he’s aware that the newfound eagerness among some Republicans to pass immigration reform can be attributed to last year’s election results.
“Immigration reform is something that I believe that we can get done over the next couple of months,” Obama told Democratic donors in San Francisco. “It’s interesting how clarifying to the mind Democrats getting 70 percent of the Latino vote was in suggesting that maybe we needed to get — finally fix a broken immigration system, and making sure that we’re both a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.”
At a naturalization ceremony last week, Obama said he expects an immigration bill to be put forward this month.
