After he leaves office, President Obama says he would like to help Democrats build a bench of young leaders and act as a “coach” for young politicians.
“What I am interested in is just developing a whole new generation of talent,” Obama told NPR in an interview published online Monday morning.
“There are such incredible young people who not only worked on my campaign, but I’ve seen in advocacy groups,” the President continued, adding that he would like to offer “whatever resources, credibility, spotlight that I can bring to help them rise up.”
He said that he would act as a “talent scout” as well as a “couch” for new leaders in the Democratic party.
Watch a clip from the interview via NPR:
I am sure the man deserves a break, but I’d like to see him in a much more active role than mentoring. Democracy is on the skids if not broken. We need every charismatic leader on the streets, not in the classrooms.

For fucks’s sake, TPM, hire a copy editor.
Yes, yes, yes to this offer. Thanks, Obama!
As Fonzie would say…Sit On It?
IMO, President Obama will go down as the last American President we had. After this, the country is irreperably broken into different parts. It’ll just be “turtles and BS all the way down.”
In terms of mentoring, I think we’d be better served by those Dems who are tougher, more willing to speak truth to power and can see the reality of what this country is really facing now. He is a highly intelligent man who understands diplomacy but I’m not clear that he can go beyond that which is what I think we need for a younger generation. We’re done with reaching across the aisle. That era is over and a new one is starting.
