The Obama campaign is launching an effort to combat the impact of voter ID laws that have swept Republican-controlled state legislatures over the past couple of years.

GottaVote.org, now in beta, is meant to make sure voters have everything they need to cast a ballot on election day. “When you have the information you need, no matter where you live, you can take the steps to make sure your vote is counted and your voice is heard come election day,” the website states.

The Obama campaign put together a video about Dorothy Cooper, an elderly Tennessee woman who had trouble obtaining an ID because she didn’t have a marriage certificate required by the state.

“Around the country, under Republican leadership, various laws have been passed — all of them with the fundamental objective of impeding the right to vote,” Obama For America General Counsel Bob Bauer says in the video. “There actually is no reason for it. It’s corrosive. It eats at peoples’ sense that this is a government that prizes democratic participation and the involvement of voters.”
