Obama Camp Hits Team Romney: ‘The Hypocrisy Is Breathtaking’

The Obama campaign is up with a new web video Tuesday slamming the Romney campaign’s “double standard” when it comes to judging his jobs-creation record in Massachusetts versus Obama’s record as president. “Romney has undercut his core argument against the president by trying to play by two sets of rules,” deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter says in the video.

On Sunday, senior Romney adviser Ed Gillespie said that the Obama campaign was unfairly characterizing Romney’s jobs record as governor of Massachusetts by averaging the earlier years of his term with the last year, even though Romney inherited a bad economy. As TPM noted Sunday, this is exactly what the Romney campaign does when it attacks Obama’s jobs creation record — a fact the Obama campaign has been highlighting since Monday. “Now they use a different standard for assessing President Obama’s record,” Cutter says in the video. “We know the president inherited an economy exponentially worse than what Mitt Romney inherited, yet these same people blame the president for job losses that occurred in January 2009, the very month he was inaugurated and months before any of his policies took place.”
