President Barack Obama has been briefed on missing EgyptAir Flight 804 and will continue to receive updates throughout the day, a White House official said Thursday.

“Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco has briefed the President on EgyptAir Flight MS 804,” Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz said in a statement. “The President asked to be updated throughout the day as the situation warrants, and directed Administration officials to reach out to their international counterparts to offer support and assistance.”

The EgyptAir flight departed Charles de Gaulle Airport shortly after 11 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive around 3 a.m. local time.

The plane disappeared from radar as it entered Egyptian air space, CNN reported.

  1. Trump should pay attention to how a president is supposed to handle something like this.

Pro tip : Immediately jumping on Twitter and making an ass of yourself isn’t a good way to handle it.

But…but…why is the President’s briefing running behind Trump’s?

He apparently already knows it was an act of terror. Oh, that’s right…Trump’s briefings come from his rear end.

  3. Yep. I’ll just bet running to impulsively tweet his thoughts at that moment was probably the furthest thing from his mind.

Maybe tRump should “suspend campaigning” to deal with this incident, in the mold of Senator McWar trying to deal with the financial crisis of 2008, since that worked out so well. Plus we’d all get a breather from that asshole.

  4. I’m just wondering if this means the nightly news will quit complaining about the monumental task TSA has before them at the airports in this country now that this horrible thing has happened. Gawd, they’ve been relentless in their complaints. Everyone knows politicians and news people need to fly more often than most…so get on that Obama. One thing the news media tends to leave out in their reporting is Congress’s role in not authorizing increased funding for the TSA because the GOP, like everything else, is still trying to drown government in the bathtub (except for military spending apparently – there’s always time to find more money for weapons and boondoggle projects the military doesn’t want or need). Congress wants heads to roll over the TSA. Great. That’ll fix things. NOT.

  5. According to the article on the flight elsewhere on the site, the plane made a sudden descent while making first a 90 degree turn left and then a 180 to the right. There didn’t seem to be any declaration of emergency. It certainly doesn’t sound like there was a bomb that brought the plane down.
