The chair of New York’s Republican Party, Ed Cox, said Monday that Eliot Spitzer’s entrance into the city’s comptroller’s race “proves that the Democratic Culture of Corruption is alive and well.”

“How can anyone take New York City Democrats seriously when their ballot this November may include all three of Eliot Spitzer, Anthony Weiner and Vito Lopez?” Cox asked in a release. “Fortunately, New Yorkers have an alternative to this latest member of the Unholy Trinity of disgraced Democrats. John Burnett has the experience, skillset and integrity needed to be New York City’s next comptroller.”

Spitzer resigned the governship in a 2008 prostitution scandal. Weiner resigned from Congress in a 2011 sexting scandal and is now running for New York City mayor. Lopez, who resigned from the state assembly in May in a sexual harrassment scandal, is running for New York City Council.
