An examination of the cockpit voice recorder shows that a crew member called to increase speed seven seconds prior to impact and called for a”go-around,”or to apply power and go around and land at another spot, at 1.5 seconds before landing, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman told reporters at a press conference Sunday.

Hersman also said the flight data recorder determined the speed of the plane during the approach to be lower than the target airspeed.

There was not believed to be any mechanical problems with the aircraft.
