Authorities in New Mexico on Monday charged a man with one count of fraudulent and double voting for allegedly trying to cast two ballots on Election Day in an apparent attempt to test the integrity of the system.
Marshall Fischer, 40, of Silver City, N.M. was taken into police custody on Election Day after he allegedly voted at a polling place in Silver City then obtained a provisional ballot at a separate polling place in Santa Clara and announced he was trying to test for voter fraud. Police declined to release his name until this week when the Grant County District Attorney’s Office charged him with the fourth-degree felony.
Santa Clara, N.M. Police Chief Lonnie Sandoval told TPM last month that Fischer was trained as a poll watcher by the Grant County Republican Party. Fischer did not immediately respond to an interview request.
Correction: A police report said Fischer voted at one location and then obtained a provisional ballot at another location, not the same location as previously stated.
