Nevada’s Republican party became the first state GOP to back immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
“The GOP has increasingly found itself in positions that do not meet the demographic realities of the State’s electorate,” a statement from the Nevada GOP reads. “These positions also conflict with our party’s historic commitment to civil rights. To that end, Republicans must become more inclusive, reflecting our desire to secure a better life for all Americans, and equally important, for our children.”
Once a highly competitive swing state in presidential elections, Nevada has moved towards the safe Democrat column in recent years thanks in part to its large Hispanic population.
