Law enforcement authorities gave the all-clear on Thursday after the facility went on lockdown due to reports of a shooting.
Muriel Bowser, mayor of Washington, D.C. told reporters on Thursday that police found no evidence of a shooting.
“At this time, there is no evidence of gunshots. There is no evidence of a shooter. And there’s no evidence of any victims today,” she told reporters at a press conference.
Navy Admiral Dixon Smith said during the press conference that as of around 11 a.m. on Thursday, the Navy Yard was still on lockdown. Smith said that law enforcement was finishing up a final walk-through of building 197, and that the facility would re-open shortly.
D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier told reporters that the call reporting a shooter was not a “hoax.” She said an employee at the Navy Yard made a call to police around 7:30 a.m. to report a possible shooting.
Numerous media outlets had previously reported that authorities did not find evidence of a shooting.

Park police responded to a call reporting a shooter at about 7:40 a.m., according to the Washington Post. An official told the Associated Press that shots were reported in a building on the Navy Yard campus.
The Washington Navy Yard was the site of a 2013 shooting in which 13 people were killed.
Hate to say it but the overwhelming police presence overloads one section of town with all of law enforcement and exposes the rest of town to a sleight-of-hand maneuver. If anything else happens, the cops are gridlocked into a wedge bordered by water, bridges, and small streets.
maybe you mean today? which is Thursday? (even though it feels a little Friday-ish…)
Apparently police have already responded to the White House and closed the park across the street and I’m sure cops at the Capitol and the congressional offices are aware of what is going on.
change day to THURSDAY
I remember in 2013 that people were killed at that same yard by a lone gunman. The ‘well armed’ beat goes on. “Deja vu all over again.” I hope not.
