Montana Tea Partiers don’t want to be affiliated with a candidate who claims to be one of their own.
The Montana Tea Party Coalition is denying any connection to congressional candidate Drew Turiano who identifies himself as a tea party Republican, according to The Missoulian. None of the 17 member groups of the coalition said Turiano had been at their respective events.
Jay Anderson, a member of the media committee for the Montana Tea Party Coalition, said that Turiano’s identification should be fact checked.
“We also find it alarming that the media made no effort to substantiate his claim,” Anderson told the Montana newspaper.
Turiano noted that the coalition does not usually endorse specific political candidates.
That’s not all the rejection Turiano has gotten recently. He was excluded from a Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday by local Republicans who cited the candidate’s support for “Operation Wetback,” a plan to deport all immigrants who live in the country illegally as well as their children.
Turiano is running for the seat currently held by Rep. Steve Daines (R-MT).
