Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney weighed in on the state of the 2016 presidential race Tuesday, saying that the country is “mad as hell” and calling for both political parties to work together.
But he did not provide any hints as to who he may be considering endorsing.
“We’re just mad as hell and won’t take it anymore,” Romney said during a speech at Babson College Wellesley, Massachusetts, as quoted by The Washington Post.
The Post reported that Romney said there was a “failure of current political leaders to actually tackle major challenges, or to try at least, or to go out with proposals.”
“Think for a moment about the major challenges you believe this country faces and tick them off in your mind and ask, ‘Are we making any real progress on any of them?’ Romney asked the crowd.
Romney mentioned national debt and global warming as issues that have not seen much progress.
But Romney didn’t provide additional context as to who he was throwing his support behind. The Huffington Post reported over the weekend that Romney was going to endorse Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), but the junior senator threw cold water on that rumor, calling the report “false.”
