As a wave of Republican scorn washed over Donald Trump Saturday for questioning John McCain’s status as a war hero, Mitt Romney joined in with praise for McCain and derision for Trump.
Romney, the GOP’s 2012 nominee, tweeted in defense of McCain, the party’s 2008 nominee:
The difference between @SenJohnMcCain and @realDonaldTrump: Trump shot himself down. McCain and American veterans are true heroes.

Both men lost to Barack Obama, a fact Trump was quick to tout in returning fire toward Romney:
Why would anybody listen to @MittRomney? He lost an election that should have easily been won against Obama. By the way,so did John McCain!

Please let tRump stick around for a while. It is fun to watch a circular firing squad. Even if tRump is not the eventual nominee he will air as much dirty laundry as possible while he is in the spotlight.
The problem with Trump is that he’s giving cover to the slightly-less-crazy-and-extreme Republicans, preventing them from getting press coverage and letting Jeb! and Marco and Walker rise.
Trump shot his wad before he got close to the hole.
Damn, I was hoping he had more control than that.
Doesn’t get much better’n this!
