Christopher Allen Simcox, the co-founder of the vigilante border group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child molestation, according to The Arizona Republic.

Simcox, 52, was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of child molestation, attempted child molestation, and sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the Republic. The newspaper reported that Simcox is accused of sexual conduct with three girls younger than 10.

Back in his days with the Minuteman group, Simcox organized civilian border patrols along the Arizona border.

He was later involved in a family dispute, and in 2010 was ordered to stay away from his wife and children.
