Former CNN personality Piers Morgan’s opinions led to an Irish exit from co-host Mika Brzezinski on the set of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday morning.
The moment came during a segment about paid paternity leave, in a discussion between Morgan, Brzeznski, and Glamour magazine Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive.
“Most dads don’t want to do paid paternity leave. They don’t,” Morgan said.
Mika winced.
“They pretend they do, but after two weeks of a tiny little baby — I love my children to pieces, but when they’re this size and all they’re doing is eating, guzzling and depositing it isn’t the most exciting gig in town,” Morgan added.
Huffinton Post reporter Sam Stein called the remark “cynical,” but the camera soon shifted over to Brzezinski, who silently began rolling her chair away from the desk.
Co-host Joe Scarborough jumped in: “That’s not cynical, that is the truth — Mika’s pulling away here.”
The panel continued talking over each other as Brzezinski winded away off the set until she was no longer visible on-camera.
She returned for the next segment. Morgan did not.
Watch the clip:
Welp, what else should we expect from Mika? After all, she’s not there to provide a rational perspective, to fact check, or even to challenge overbearing male privilege. She’s just there… until she isn’t. I think Mika is now required to check out when “the boys” get her goat, because if she stayed there would be blood on the set.
Uhhh, my wife and I are expecting our first child and I am super excited to take my paternity leave. Piers Morgan certainly doesn’t speak for me.
What is cynical, is the fact that this was in response to a whisper in her ear; it was nothing more than choreographed outrage.
Mika silently rolling away is funny. It is sort of emblematic of her role on that show.
Say no more.
