One week after Microsoft announced it would be expanding the retail availability of its new Surface tablet devices beyond Microsoft stores and online, the company sent out a press release announcing Surface would be available for purchase in Best Buy retail outlets and the chain’s website.
Earlier, Staples announced it would be carrying Surface tablets in its stores and online as well.
Microsoft has not released official sales figures for its new tablet, which starts at $499, but analysts have estimated that it has not sold well since it was released October 26, citing limited distribution as a handicap. The Surface runs a light version of Microsoft’s new Windows 8 software called Windows RT, while another Surface model running the full Windows 8 Pro software is due out in January, starting at $899.
