The Michigan Republican Party may very well have produced the worst ad of the 2014 campaign cycle.
The ad, against Rep. Gary Peters (D-MI), the frontrunner in the Michigan race for U.S. Senate, targets the Democratic congressman over taking money from loan sharks as pointed out by a a Washington Free Beacon story from over the summer (never mind, as Bloomberg Politics’ Dave Weigel points out, that he gave that money back a little over two years ago).
The ad argues that Peters is in the “eye” of some kind of corruption storm that has sharks. Because Sharnado.
“Funded by a convicted felon, connected to a loan shark ring, run by an international gangster who also contributed to Peters’ campaign,” a voiceover in the ad said as a Peters animation tries to avoid a tornado with money-burping sharks. “Gary Peters: Loan Sharknado: coming soon to a voting booth near you.”
Weigel called the ad “breathtakingly bad.”
Watch the ad below:
Peters has maintained a strong lead over Republican opponent Terri Lynn Land for most of the cycle. The TPM Polltracker average gives Peters a 8.6 point lead over Land.
Come on GOP…you can do worse than this!
I dunno. That’d be hard to beat.
Attractive to the TeaPub intelligentsia…
i.e.
they who get off on DudDynasty, SwampSwill, and deadBrainsWalking;.
they who think $ister$arah is smart and whose brood exemplify TeaXianFamilyValues.
A pathetic ad in terms of swaying anyone’s vote.
But from an aesthetic perspective, I find it strangely compelling
Perception is reality, if you abandon reality.
