The singer posted several photos from before the event to her Tumblr, including her and her daughter Blue Ivy playing with one of the Obamas' two Portuguese water dogs.
According to the Washington Post, Beyonce performed at the birthday bash. John Legend, jazz singer Ledisi and former "American Idol" contestant Jennifer Hudson also serenaded the first lady.
President Barack Obama's "Dougie" dance was one of the night's most memorable moments, guests told CNN. The President was also reportedly emotional in his remarks about his wife.
“It was really beautiful and really touching,” jazz musician Herbie Hancock told CNN. “He said something – his voice almost cracked like he was crying. It was just beautiful, a husband speaking about his wife.”
Hudson shared a photo of her and her boyfriend after the event on Instagram, writing "we had such a good time with the 1st family in dc tonight !"
