Salomon Melgen, the Florida doctor, businessman, and political donor whose ties to Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) have been under scrutiny, has courted other top politicians in recent years, including President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Politico reported on Wednesday.
Melgen, whose business interests are now reportedly the subject of a federal investigation, briefly met Obama at a 2010 fundraiser Melgen co-hosted in the Washington D.C. suburbs. They made small talk and posed for a picture.
Last summer, Reid flew to Boston, Mass. on Melgen’s company’s private plane. Reid was flying to Boston for an Majority PAC event, and the super PAC reimbursed Melgen’s company $4,160 for the trip.
According to Politico, there is “no evidence that either Obama or Reid inappropriately sought to aid Melgen.”
