A Fox News spokesperson said on Friday that any speculation that host Megyn Kelly’s summer vacation was related to the recent attacks she received from GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump were right up there with conspiracy theories about the moon landing.

The spokesperson told the website Mediaite that the vacation was merely a pre-planned beach getaway.

“The conspiracy theories about Megyn Kelly’s vacation rank up there with UFO’s (sic), the moon landing and Elvis being alive,” the Fox spokesperson said in a statement provided to Mediaite. “To imply otherwise as Donald Trump and his campaign operatives have is not only wildly irresponsible, but downright bizarre.”

The statement also said that Fox chairman Roger Ailes “has fully supported her and her tough journalistic questioning since day one,” saying the Fox boss is “historically and consistently loyal” to his talented team members.

Ailes had reportedly offered Trump screen time on “The Kelly File” as part of his efforts to broker peace in the wake of the network’s first Republican presidential debate. But Trump declined.

Kelly moderated last week’s first Republican presidential debate. Afterward, Trump said her questions to him had been “unfair” and that she seemed to have “blood coming out of her wherever.”
