As the Senate readies a vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act, intended to correct paycheck discrimination against women, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is taking the opportunity to highlight her opponents’ opposition to the bill.

“Missouri families lose when working moms aren’t paid their due, but that’s not a concern for John Brunner, Sarah Steelman or Todd Akin, all of whom flatly oppose equal pay for equal work,” said Caitlin Legacki, McCaskill for Missouri spokeswoman, per a campaign release. “Rather than telling working moms to stop complaining, Akin, Brunner and Steelman should be fighting to help families who are punished for no reason other than having a female wage-earner.”

Republicans, including McCaskill’s challengers, view the act as political posturing, claiming the pay equity problem had been solved with the Lily Ledbetter Act, the first bill Obama signed into law upon becoming president.

President Obama, meanwhile, said on Monday that the law is needed to help bring women’s pay in line with men’s.
