A Michigan father pulled his sons out of their public elementary school this week after he says the school allowing a 9-year-old who identifies as a boy to use the bathroom with his son caused “embarrassment and intimidation.”

Matt Stewart took three children, who are all under the age of 10, out of school after his son reported using the bathroom alongside a 9-year-old student who is biologically female. A staff member present instructed the student to look at the wall and talked to Stewart’s son about standing closer to the urinal, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Stewart said the district did not notify parents it would comply with a Justice Department directive for public schools to allow trans students to use the bathroom of their gender identity, and he’s frustrated he couldn’t discuss the measure with his children before it was implemented.

“My children are having to choose between embarrassment and intimidation,” Stewart told WDIV, adding his 9-year-old was left feeling like “he was doing something wrong.”

As of Thursday, Stewart’s children, who attend Southwest Elementary in Howell, Michigan, had missed three days of school. He told the news station he would consider homeschooling his kids or sending them to another school district if the public wasn’t allowed any input on the policy.

11 states are currently suing the Obama administration over the directive.

Oh really? Small ones run in the family then? Just teach them to act like you and intimidate the poor girl…maybe bounce her head off a sink or two while chanting passages from Leviticus, right?

  2. Embarrassment for his kids? Wait until all their friends learn what their dad did, pulling them out of school and going on national news because of their bathroom feelings.

These stories never make sense to me. One parent v. all the others, and he gets all the publicity. The headline should read: “Thousands and thousands of Michigan parents feel absolutely OK with trans bathroom and get on with their lives.”

  4. OK - the headline made me think this was father who was upset that the school was not following the directive - because a trans girl (i.e., male at birth, identifies as a girl) was using the boys room.

After reading - I see its a headline problem.

  5. Just like we never hear about all the people making toast in the morning. Just the one guy who runs around waving a piece of toast in the air insisting on showing everyone an image burned into it of Jesus and the apostoles ascending into heaven on the backs of giant fruitbats.
