Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) signed a marriage equality bill into law on Thursday, saying “we are one Maryland,” Metro Weekly reports. Maryland is the eighth state to legalize same-sex marriage, though it will not go into effect until 2013. The new law already faces a potential ballot referedum in November from marriage equality opponents.
