Wyoming Republican Senate candidate Liz Cheney released a new ad Monday highlighting her family’s history in the state.
The ad, titled “Daughters,” features Cheney’s three daughters recounting the Cheney family’s “deep roots” in Wyoming starting when Cheney’s ancestors first came to the state in 1852. They also mention that former Vice President Dick Cheney hails from the state, where he was a representative in Congress.
“We’re proud of our families deep roots in Wyoming,” one of Cheney’s daughters said in the ad.
The ad is a clear response to criticism that Cheney doesn’t really have a strong connection to Wyoming and only recently moved there in order to run for Sen. Mike Enzi’s (R-WY) Senate seat.
The ad also comes as Cheney tries to move national attention away from an increasingly public feud between her and her sister Mary over same-sex marriage. Liz Cheney has repeatedly said she opposes same-sex marriage. Mary, who is openly lesbian and is married to her partner, is reportedly no longer on speaking terms with her sister over this position.
