In an attempt to understand thawing relations between the U.S. and Cuba, Larry Wilmore spent Thursday’s episode of “The Nightly Show” unpacking the new policy change.

“Now the truth is, I don’t really know a lot about Cuba right now,” Wilmore began. “What’s it like to live there?”

A clip from MSNBC informed Wilmore that Cuba has a system of food rations, where a family of five will receive one chicken a month, according to a guest.

“One chicken a month? Man that’s horrible. I mean here we used chicken as bread!” Wilmore said, flashing an image of a KFC “Double Down” sandwich, with its buns made of poultry.

“We are such assholes!” the host shouted.

Wondering why some lawmakers remain opposed to lifting sanctions, Wilmore listened to a clip of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) rail against Cuba’s policies restricting the press and eschewing democratic elections.

“Well, he makes a good point,” Wilmore said. “I mean, we don’t like doing business with countries that don’t have free speech or elections.”

“Unless they’re making our iPhones,” he added, as an image of China appeared on screen.
