Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), one of four Republicans who voted for the background check bill, lamented its failure at the hands of a filibuster on Wednesday.

“I am disappointed that the Senate could not come together to support a bipartisan proposal that would reduce gun violence and protect law-abiding gun owners,” he said in a statement, “but American voters are the ultimate judge of today’s result.”
