In his testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry told lawmakers that the Iranian leadership wants them to vote against a military strike in Syria.
“Iran is hoping you look the other way,” Kerry said. “Our inaction would surely give them a permission slip.”
Kerry listed several other countries and groups — including Hezbollah and North Korea — that he said would take American inaction as “impunity” to seek out and use chemical or even nuclear weapons.
“They are all listening for our silence,” Kerry said.
