"I am proud to announce my candidacy for Chair of the Democratic National Committee," Ellison wrote, as quoted by Politico. "If given the opportunity to serve, I will work tirelessly to make the Democratic Party an organization that brings us together and advances an agenda that improves people’s lives."
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) already threw their support behind Ellison in the week following Election Day.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also backed Ellison earlier Monday. He released a statement describing Ellison as a "terrific leader and a strong progressive who knows how to get things done."
