Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released a statement Monday announcing his candidacy for chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

“I am proud to announce my candidacy for Chair of the Democratic National Committee,” Ellison wrote, as quoted by Politico. “If given the opportunity to serve, I will work tirelessly to make the Democratic Party an organization that brings us together and advances an agenda that improves people’s lives.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) already threw their support behind Ellison in the week following Election Day.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also backed Ellison earlier Monday. He released a statement describing Ellison as a “terrific leader and a strong progressive who knows how to get things done.”

  1. How long before a sitting member of Congress actually questions if it’s legal for a Muslim to head a major U.S. political party? Louie Gohmert anyone?

  2. Good. And nice to hear of Warren’s support as well.

    Let’s get to work!

  3. If it helps unite people iam fine with it, but i wont be surprised if people still aren’t happy about things or turn on him latter for w/e reason down the road.

  4. Oh Fuck!
Now anyone who opposes him (like me) will get labeled a “RACIST!” by the “coasties” and Bernie-Bots.
He will easily win the job, and completely FAIL at it because he has NEVER run anything more complicated than a single inner-city congressional district campaign that was 100% minority-focused.
He may speak the words, but he can’t back them up (“All Hat, No Steer”)
The MSM will have a field day with this one too, “Democrats elect DNC Chair from District with the most Terrorist Recruits in the Country!” (which is actually true, out of context, like everything else the MSM does.)
I am FROM Minnesota and know of Ellison well. He is in Waaaaaayyyyy over his head here.
There go the 2018 elections (he will make DWS look good by comparison)
After that is done there will be a 60+ Republican Majority in the Senate (no more filibuster issues) and a 200 seat majority in the House. Say hello to 2 more Justice Scalia’s on the SCOTUS and no more “right” to vote.
    fuck
Maybe I should move to Canada.

  5. You got it. Head of DNC is primarily a fundraising gig not a policy creation gig. Seems to me that this can pull in the $27 monthly crowd and I guess that’s good because they feel like they’re doing something. But it’s not really a strong plan for creating a Dem majority in Congress. That is, if that’s what you think needs to be done…

EDIT TO ADD: While I have no doubts that the berniacs think that getting “big money” or “dark money” out of politics is great, not being able to raise large sums of money puts us behind the 8 ball in terms of recruiting good Dems nationwide. However, if you’re just interested in masturbating about “New Deal Dems” well then…
