Republican presidential candidate Ohio Gov. John Kasich told The Washington Post editorial board on Wednesday that he was still opposed to making Washington, D.C. a state, arguing that it would give more votes to the Democratic Party.
Kasich voted against the district becoming a state while in Congress and the editorial board asked him if that was still his position.
“Yes, I would say it probably is,” he said.
Kasich was then asked if he thought the district should have voting representatives in Congress.
“I just don’t see that we really need that, OK?” Kasich replied. “I don’t know. I don’t think so.”
Washington Post associate editorial page editor Jo-Ann Armao noted that D.C. residents serve in the military and pay taxes despite not having voting representation.
“Well look, I am not – I don’t – I am not, because you know what, what it really gets down to if you want to be honest is because they know that’s just more votes in the Democratic Party,” Kasich said.
Armao asked Kasich if he would have a different opinion if there were Republicans in the district.
“Yeah, okay, well look, they send me a bill, I’m president of the United States, I’ll read your editorials,” he replied.
Taxation without representation is tyranny only if you plan to vote Republican. You should also be white and preferably Jesus loving.
“Well look, I am not – I don’t – I am not, because you know what, what it really gets down to if you want to be honest is my hair is always a little bit nappy,” Kasich said.
He says that like it’s a bad thing.
So, he´s all for democracy, just as long as certain people can´t vote.
Nothing inconsistent about that.
Utah being a state just gives more votes to Republicans.
