Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Monday that his nation’s elders must decide if U.S. troops will remain immune from prosecution after the expected 2014 withdrawal, the Associated Press reported

“The issue of immunity is under discussion (and) it is going to take eight to nine months before we reach agreement,” Karzai said at a news conference, according to Reuters

Karzai met with President Obama last week at the White House, where the two leaders discussed the drawdown of the war. In his remarks Monday, Karzai said the talks were “very calm.”
