Jon Stewart must have felt like he’d been sent back in time on Tuesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” as he lampooned a Bush for supporting the Iraq War.
Stewart was aghast to hear reports that likely presidential candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) considered his brother, President George W. Bush “one of his top foreign policy advisors.”
“One of his top foreign policy advisors…for him to poop on?” the host asked. “There’s gotta be anothe clause in that sentence.”
That didn’t prepare him for the comment from Bush making the rounds this week after Bush gave a Fox News interview.
Host Megyn Kelly asked the likely presidential contender if he would have ordered the invasion of Iraq in 2003, “knowing what we know now.”
“I would have,” Bush said.
Stewart stuttered.
“When an Iraq War question starts with ‘knowing what we know now,’ — ‘hell yes I’d still do it’ is not an acceptable response,” he said.
“Sure I’d get on the Titantic again!” Stewart added. “I mean at the time, it had a terrific buffet!”
Bush has since attempted to explain his answer by saying he “interpereted the question wrong,” saying that “there were mistakes” with the invasion.
Still, Stewart decided that Bush associating with his brother’s foreign policy was something akin to wearing an “I fuck dogs” t-shirt on the campaign trail.
Watch the clip:
Yeah, how, exactly, do you mishear "knowing what we know now’? That’s not really not misinterpretable.
None of this will matter to republican voters. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “I miss George Bush ! I was so glad he was president during 9/11, he kept us safe”. Jeb is probably counting on these morons to vote for him. Is our republican voters learning? I don’t think so.
Even knowing what we knew then, it was an indefensible choice. Those pushing for the invasion of Iraq knew full well that the intelligence had been cooked.
I’ve seen a better fillet at McDonalds.
Love Jon Stewart!
