Jon Stewart was hardly able to contain his rage on Wednesday night as he tore into Republicans for blowing off the “good news” in the President’s State of the Union address.
“This is good news, you fucking idiots,” the host of “The Daily Show” said.
After running a portion of the President’s address touting gains in employment, a rising stock market, and sinking health care inflation, Stewart was gobsmacked to see a shot of Republicans locked in their seats during a standing ovation in across the rest of the House chamber.
“What is that?” he shouted. “Do you sit because you want higher inflation? No.”
“What is clear,” Stewart continued, “is that the glue that holds us together as a people is not nearly as strong as the glue holding the wood of John Boehner’s chair to the wood of John Boehner’s ass.”
Stewart said it was as if the Republican lawmakers were allergic to applause.
“Although to be fair to one Republican, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was unable to stand and applaud because he had accidentally rolled onto his back and could not be turned over unaided,” Stewart said as one of his favorite images of McConnell as a giant humanoid tortoise flashed on screen.
